The ancient Acarnanian capital, Stratos, is located north of the present homonymous settlement, very close to the west bank of Acheloos River. The ancient theater of Stratos is the largest of the five theaters discovered so far in the Region Unit of Etoloakarnania and is located in the Municipality of Stratos (old village Sorovigli). Three construction phases have been identified since the excavation of the visible foundations of the stage building. The first dates back to the 4th century BC, the second to the 3rd and the last to the 2nd century BC.
